A Trip to Omuniuum: A Shop For Reading an Listening

Honsetly, my latest visit to this place was almost 2 years ago. There maybe changes or variations occur, but I believe this store is still awesome.

Well as you see the title, Omuniuum is a shop for reading and listening. But I think it’s more than that. Because this store also sells sketchbook, POSTCARDS (yeaay), t-shirt, tote bag, toys (not sure if it’s diecast), and many more. Most of the t-shirts are merch from local bands. Sometimes, this store also sell concert tickets, by local bands of course.

A Trip to Pustakalana: the little hidden place full of treasure

After many weeks passed (actually it’s MONTHS lol), I can take my breath from tasks and assignments. I could sleep normally, even longer than usual. Haha. Thankss to the lecturers at uni, who always  help me by giving easy ttasks and replace final exams with easier things to do at home.

Since I have extra time to do leisure activities, I have to go out more too! Recently I visited Pustakalana, a children library in Bandung. It was 8.1 km away from home, the journey took more than 40 minutes. It was worth it.

As I said before, Pustakalana is a children library. So, its collection was books with kidlit genre (mostly). Picture books, small toys, a few of them are novels for middle aged person, and reference books (about paintings and american literature). Kidlit is my favorite book genre. Found a library that collects kidlit books is like heaven to me! I feel like I found a match for life haha! Ok, that’s overreacting….

Not only books, Pustakalana also held some activities which is good for children and their parents (who already become a member). For example, Mother Goose Club, the staff will teach the children how to sing nursery rhymes. Thus, Parents Club, the staff and group of parents will discuss how to take care of their children. There are 3-4 clubs in total. Exclude other activities that collab’ with local communities.

A Trip to Big Bad Wolf Jakarta 2017

Tja! I have been in hiatus for a while ago. I thought reading my old books would cure my books addiction. But it didn’t.

Ah right, if you’re a bookstagrammers or bibliophile (especially in Asia) you already know the Big Bad Wolf Bookfair ? Finally after I skipped that event twice, I could join that event yeayyy cheers!

What is Big Bad Wolf Bookfair ? And why is it so special among the other bookfairs? It’s because the books that being provided are imported books! And the price is very very pricey. For example, the Aristotele and Dante Discover The Secret of The Universe, its normal price was Rp 165-198 thousand. But its price in this bookfair was Rp 65 thousand only! This event also provide various genres, from boardbooks to reference books, so everyone may join this event!

Gosh, as a person who was book-obsessed I have been waiting for this! My family and I were departed at 7.00 from home. Arrived in jakarta at 9 sharp. Unfortunately, the book Fair was held at Tangerang, an elite city used to be a part of Jakarta province. The journey was really smooth, until …

We were family of 5 (plus my grandmother, so it’ll make 6 of us). No one likes books in my family. Only me. Before we arrive there was a quite big debate, which place is gonna be visited first. My mother and my sisters have no interest in books, so do my grandma also my father (he only read religious books). And the other problem, tangerang is more far from Jakarta (about 20 km or more). Since the book Fair was open 24/7, and Thamrin city (a clothing market we wanted to visit) wasn’t open all the time,we were agreed to visit Thamrin city first, park our car there, and then go to big bad wolf book Fair by taking public transportation.

Powerless, I agreed. I thought my father knew the way to the location. BUT HE DOESN’T. At least he knew the public transports.

From the thamrin city, we (my father and me) were taking a bajaj (if you haven’t know bajaj, better check it out) to the Tanah Abang Station. Honestly, it was not that far. Less than 3 km I think. But,  the number of cars and motors on the road is so fckn crazy. The total time used to reach the station was 1 HOUR. The bajaj driver encourage us to walk, after 1 hour passed. And then we walked about 500 m to the station.

People are everywhere. I realized that there was a market in front of the station. I questioned, where are these people came from? Why are they here? Leaving their hometown for a smug city…

And then, we reached the train station, wasn’t too long to wait the commuter train. So much comfortable here. For about 30 minutes, we reached the Serpong station. A blog said, we must cross the road and take an angkot (the blue one), and then get off in front of the ITC junction (?) I’m not really sure. Luckily, we asked a passenger and he said “if you want to go to that bookfair, better take an ojek. No public transportation will take you exactly in front of the place.”

He was right. AND THE PRICE OF A NON-ONLINE OJEK IS SO EXPENSIVE GOSH. In Bandung, Rp 35 thousand will take you to Jatinangor. The ojek even didn’t loan us a fckn helmet!

We arrived at 13.30, I did skipped the lunch for the sake of joining this event. We entered hall 10 of ICE BSD convention center.

How was the bookfair? My my, I wish I was more healthy at that time.IT WAS SO HUGE. Haven’t start the hunting yet, I felt bellyache also tension in both of my feet.

Oh almost forgot, there are more than 5 rows of tables with books on top. A row contain at least 1-2 genres. Since it was the 4th day of the fair, some of the genres are already sold out especially boardbook, soundbooks, pop up books. And the piles weren’t really neat.

I only have 2 hours maximum to observe and pick any books that I like, I really want to explore more but no energy and time T_T. I only buy 5 books, and a box of postcards. Since I’m afraid I’ll not finished them all.

*picture above: the queue  to the cash registers at 2 pm

So sad, the bookfair didn’t provide what I was looking for… we left at 3 pm. Took a cab to the Rawa Mangu station, and arrived to tanah abang. Left jakarta at 6 pm. Traffic is everywhere.

Arrived in Bandung at 9.30 pm…

I’ll post the #bbwstash and the hunting results later. If you have any request or suggestion of what should I post next, feel free to comment below! See ya

Self Fulfilling Prophecy and Self Serving Bias

Let’s get straight to the point.

I don’t know guys, I think I don’t know my self very well. Sometimes I’m feeling so proud of me, and sometimes I hate my self too. It could happened in the same day.

Like, for example, I found a book (damn I bought another book again :/) that I think it suits for me. It explained about graphic design briefly, I got a mini (but cute) pouch from an illustrator in a book tour event. I feel so happy at that time! Oh, how lucky I was! What worse can happen?

Worst things happened to me one by one. I got hit by the automatic parking gate. I have no fckin clue where was pedestrian supposed to walk. When I got hit, I heard that the staff yelled at me “watch out!” RIGHT AFTER I GOT HIT. I’m sure he DID THAT ON PURPOSE.

Thus, I searched for a grab driver, the phone was broken and I realized its battery isn’t right. I waited for 1 hour for nothing. I got home by riding a public transportation instead. The bestest moment of a day can be broken in just 3 minutes.

FYI, when I got off from the bus, I have to WALK for about 30-45 minutes to arrive in front of my house. If not, I have to take another public transportation again, twice, plus the traffic jam. A passenger told me, my plastic bag was torn up. Great. Really.

In the bus, I concerned what just happened with me. “why do I thinking like this?” “Isn’t it not good for my health?” “why is everything bad happened to me at once?” “why do people walks SO FCKN SLOW when I feel irritated?” “why do I carry my sisters’ items?” (its weight was about 1-2 kg) “why I haven’t found a guy that has the same hobby as me?” Aggh, I feel like my brain is shrinking.

Eh, almost forgot. Maybe I think like this because I didn’t got what was supposed to be mine. My rights. Last night I registered to a “book tour” event. Although the book wasn’t really my taste (romance, and the writer had thousand experience of broken heart) I’m afraid I wouldn’t get what he was saying. But the author said “sure you may join” after I asked him in his instagram. He speaks funny.

The problem is, in the poster said “awesome prize is waiting for the first 10 partcipants”. I feel thrilled. In the end of the book tour, my name was mentioned in the second place. Th editor of the book, who was willing to give the prize to the ‘lucky’ participants, never give the prize (maybe only to me? I don’t know who were the other 9 participants). The prize was a small notebook. It wasn’t cute either. I don’t need it. I have plenty of notebooks in my home, haven’t finished them yet. But I feel like my life is missing and colorless. What was supposed to be mine never arrive. Although I don’t really need it.

Can you help me to find some books that lead me to such information?

Hey guuys! It’s me again. College is very very beyond of my expectations._.

I mean, sure it is, the people are nice, the time is so much flexible than in high school. Yeah, but few of the people are assholes :/

Anyway, have you ever heard about me learning in drawabox.com? No? OK, for anyone who’s willing to learn (and want to work hard to reach those skills as the artists in the instagram), you better check the website. I have been learning  since last December of 2016, and I can feel the change in my hands, also my heart.

Eh, I forgot what was supposed to be typed haha. If you ever join some art class , science, and geography class, you must be know about diversity of flora and fauna right? For example, birds in Java island is different from the birds in Lombok island. Most of the birds in Lombok has bright and shiny colours, and the size are also big, unlike in Java island.

I need books (or any information source- website) that give me information like that, but more complex.

I had found the example of the book. It’s Silver Secrets by Silver-Burdett Ginn publisher. Unfortunately, the book just provide me a few of differentiation of animals. Such as, the difference between hare & rabbit, crocodile & ____, iguana & chameleon.

If you had read any book that has similar information as the last paragraph above, please let me know by commenting in this post >.<

It’ll be more helpful if the source (books or website) provide some information like these:

  • Differentiation of animals in one species (for example, Elephant is one kind of mammal species. But do you know that elephants from Africa had larger ears than elephants in Asia?)
  • How to draw race? (Drawing faces and give them uniqueness is easy, but do you know exactly what to draw when you want to illustrate humans of negroid, mongolian, or maybe caucasian, and even people from Sri Lanka? My art teacher in the high school said, each race has its own ‘face composition’ to define them. Unfortunately I don’t know what book I should pick to learn more about this.)

Thank you for all of the support! In the next post I’ll tell you about my reasons of why I draw and my silly experiences/ attempts to build this skill. See you next time!

NB: do you enjoy my books review? Do you have any suggestion of what book should I review? Is it more fun to read a book tour (a review which contain each chapters of the book being break down by the reviewer) or just the review only? Do not hesitate to comments 🙂

Being pathetic

While I was thinking how bad I was, suddenly I remember another bad memory from the past (when I was at school, I was being bullied many ttimes). And then I remember who were helped me at that time, and who doesn’t care about me.
So, while studying, I see a person who doesn’t care about me on instagram. After some check, I asked her to follow me back, maybe she doesn’t know me because I have a different username from my real name. Her latest photo was posted about 4 minutes ago, it’s a big chance that she was still in on her screen. After a night, she doesn’t follow me back. And then I wonder if everyone I have met doesn’t remember me for some purposes

Kantor Pos di citylink (Ada kantor pos di mall?? O_o)

Long time no see! I guess? Hai udah lama ga ngepost nih. Setelah berusaha menerapkan book ban semenjak berbulan bulan yg lalu, hasilnya yah… Book bannya tetep gagal hehe.

Eitss jangan salah sangka. Bisnis yg dilakukan oleh pt pos Indonesia ga cuma me-deliver surat dan paket aja kok. Ada bisnis swalayan, kirim uang pake wesel, dll. Jadi pos Indonesia belum dead yaa (hopefully).
